Blackstick® Rocket Launcher Removable Boat Sun Shades are perfect for the fisherman that does not want anything in the way when fishing but desires a boat sun shade. This boat sun shade design uses two light weight sticks and mounts going from the rocket launcher at an angle which provides a rigid suspended shade structure, but yet gentle to the rod holders. There is a small load at the tip of the sticks where the shade is attached for lift. From that point, the sticks are tensioned by the shade to four receiving points at the hard top which spreads the load throughout the structure and provides a tight shade. The aerodynamics and sturdiness of the shade allows you to run at 20 to 30 knots.
It comes with two breakdown 1 inch flexible carbon fiber sticks (1.25 to 1.5 lbs. per stick) and two powder coated mounts. For the boat manufacturers and tower companies, we can do OEM by welding two 8 inch Schedule 40 aluminum tube angled out ward for receiving the sticks. Both boat sun shades are custom fit and all goes in a bag.
New Stock Rocket Launcher Shades and Custom Stock Shades. I have two size shades medium and small. The medium is 55″ hard top x 65″ long x 95″ stern and small 53″ hard top x 56″ long x 86″ stern. The shade design stops at the rocket launcher. The attachment point for the shade needs to be 55″or greater. The attachments points on the hardtop can be kingfish rod holders, handrails, tubing or pad eyes. I will provide the pad eyes if needed. Great for the person who wants a shade right away. The custom stock shade the customer takes some simple measurements for me to design a shade that needs to be bigger or smaller than the stock shades. Fabric color black or white.
Difference Between Blackstick Rocket Shade and Other Rocket Launcher Shade System.
- More support. Two mounts and attachment points to the hard top. Other systems use one mount to support the shade. This puts a lot of stress on the rod holder.
- No notch mounts. The mounts are free floating in the rod holders and the shade design when tension spreads the sticks outward to tension the shade. Other systems notch the mount to hold the shade in place. Could cause pin damage.
- No mechanical parts. Simple design. Other systems have moving parts to deploy the shade. The more moving parts, the more likely something will break.
- Custom Shade. Take simple measurements to get a better shade fit. Other systems fixed shade sizes.
- Run with it up. 20 to 30 knots. Some systems they do not recommend running with the shade up.

The traditional Blackstick® rod holder boat sun shade uses rod holders as the receiving point for your carbon fiber poles, which then support the boat sun shade shade. The traditional boat sun shade can be used to cover the bow or stern of the boat.

What is the Blackstick® rocket boat sun shade?
Our Blackstick® rocket boat sun shade uses rod holders on your hard top. We insert elbows into the rod holders and then the carbon fiber poles into the elbows. The boat sun shade is free floating and doesn’t use carbon fiber poles in the gunnels, keeping your stern open for fishing.

How do I attach the Blackstick® boat sun shade to my hardtop?
We normally set stainless steel padeyes in your hard top with small sheet metal screws. We then put snap hooks on our shades to make putting up and taking down a breeze. If you don’t have a hard top, then we can also loop around any existing structure/frame with webbing straps.

How fast can I go with my Blackstick® boat sun shade up?
For bow sun shades, trolling speed. 5-10 knots.
For stern and rocket boat sun shades, 25-30 knots. Sometimes the sun shades can take more, but it’s the customers’ responsibility to operate within these guidelines. If it looks out of control, slow down or take it down. We won’t replace something broken from negligence.

Do you keep patterns of boats?
Blackstick® is the OEM manufacturer for several boat builders. We only keep patterns for those boat builders. Everything else is custom.
How easy are your boat sun shades to set up and take down?

How is the boat sun shade attached to the hard top?
There are two Blackstick® boat sun shade options.
1. Loop webbing straps around any available tubing.
2. Drilling small holes into the hard top to install stainless steel padeyes and fastening
them with small screws.
Do you have a universal boat sun shade kit?
We are in the process of developing a Blackstick® universal boat sun shade kit. Due to variations of rod holder placement and degrees on each boat, each shade is custom to the boat.
